Advocating for our people at Washington Heights’ Community Board 12: Our community leadership and elders urged our government officials to start implementing the commitments that were made to us regarding representation of our community leadership on the staff of government agencies in the area. For the past three years, our organization collected many signatures under our three petitions to three elected officials calling upon them to make decisions that would help our community professionals break through the glass wall separating them from professional work in public service.

Photos from last night’s memorial event on the 100th anniversary of the victory of the democratic “February” revolution over Tsarist autocracy in Russia. Thank you to the co-sponsoring organizations, to Vadim Astrakhan for the performance of his translation of Vladimir Mayakovsky’s verses and to Mikhail Zhinzherov for his poetry reading. This was our fourth educational project – following our conference on the 190th anniversary of the Decembrist revolt (2015), our three conferences on the history of the Soviet Jewish struggle for rights and freedoms (2011, 2012, 2013), and our event on the anniversary of the defeat of the August 1991 coup (2014) – that form a part of RCCMB’s longstanding educational program on anti-authoritarian currents in Russia’s history and culture.
